Translating Trends for Real Life

Spring Shoe Style

January 31, 2018

Spring is coming!
Its still cold AF here in OH– and I definitely am one of the weird ones who like the cold.. But I do love the seasonal transition- and It always has me thinking of how to update my wardrobe.
With all the shoe talk lately, I thought I would get the SPRING party going with my favorite shoe picks!
My personal closet is stuffed with TOMS and booties and the almighty, Athleisure shoe :). SO i definitely have included those, but there are some new styles that I am crushing on as well… Just like the super fun espadrille and pointy toe flat.
I hope you enjoy what I have picked out,-I really do work hard at selecting what I think looks terrific at any price point.
As always, please don’t be afraid to reach out if you need a bit more help or just want to show me how you style it!

Xo,
Sarah

Making a Statement Pt. 2

January 26, 2018

Ok, since we all loved the jewelry part so much, I figure I wouldn’t tease you anymore and move on to another statement item This topic will involve scarves. There are blanket scarves, silk scarves, lightweight scarves, wool scarves the list can go on and on.

I posted recently a really cool pink scarf, I loved it initially for the cozy effect and of

course the PINK.  In styling it, I kept with the same theme, so I wore it with my everyday longsleeve shirt and jeans. Cozy blankets scarves can be worn with dresses too! You can use a wide belt to hold in place and accent your waist – and you’ll be nice and warm!

In the warmer months, a scarf is another great way to add a pop of color to white denim or romper. The scarf pictured below is a GREAT example, its full of color and it really pops with the white background.  Even if I didn’t pair it with the earrings, I could have my hair in a topknot and GO. (Yay for not washing and drying hair!!) Can’t you just imagine me  at a restaurant at a Mexican resort in that scarf!? I mean… YASSS.

In the workplace, go for a silk scarf, hand it long across your neck or tie it cute when short! Your choice!

Making a Statement Pt. 1

January 21, 2018

IMG_0925When it comes to personal style, how we decide to make a statement is different for each of us. Some like more subtle, some of us like to make a BIG impact, and sometimes its right in the middle. Honestly that can change day to day, and it all depends so much on how you are feeling right that moment. I just love that personal style gives you the permission to change your mind at a moment’s notice.

Statement pieces are a FUN way of adding to your collection of clothing that you already own. Adding a piece of trendy jewelry or shoe can just change your whole outfit! As far as how to make a statement, that is completely up to you.

In writing this blog post I had so many ideas for ALL THE THINGS.. of course. So I am going to break it down without going overboard on ideas all at one time.

Silver Bib necklace

This will be a series of blog postings covering each item piece. I won’t make you wait too long though.

As far as clothing and accessories are concerned, you can make a statement in a few ways. In my opinion, statement pieces are the “Star of the Show”, so I would not do more than one in a single outfit. My strategy in styling would be to use all your other items you wear in that outfit to be complimentary in color to help it stand out.

The first kind of statement piece is Jewelry. And I’ll show you some examples so you can replicate it at home.

Jewelry

My everyday jewelry tends to be pretty simple, so when I wear it as a statement I feel it makes a big impact. 1-2 pieces is all it takes! I recently posted a couple cool trendy finds for myself and I love them! Pair earrings with a bracelet or cocktail ring. If you don’t like dangle earrings, try a statement post or ear crawler. Keep your “backdrops” of your clothes simple to show it off. Also a work wear dress, t-shirt or tank and cardigan is perfect for a super cool statement necklace, this can be a bib necklace, long necklace with a charm or a Lariat style.

My favorite ready to shop trends are here: Including some of the items pictured.

The important thing to remember is that it doesn’t need to be complicated and it should make you feel great about yourself! If it doesn’t, do it!

STYLE TIP: If you are new to statement pieces, start by finding a style you like to wear, such as earrings, and look for an inexpensive option before splurging to go with your favorite outfit.  That way you can decide for yourself if it works for you! My picks are all great options for beginners or  professionals!

And as always, I am here for you. Don’t be afraid to reach out, I would love to hear back about what you find or if you need a little more help!

Foundation Must-Haves

January 16, 2018

Yesterday I did a quick Insta- Story with all the products I use for my foundation routine. Sharing that video was kind of fun and I hope you enjoyed it! I wanted to share the links to all the products that I used, in case you missed anything. In addition, I included all the products I used to finish the look. 🙂   Tip: If you have a full coverage liquid foundation and you want to sheer it out, mix a bit of it with a water primer- like this MAC Prep + Prime  . 🙂

Also just a reminder I have saved it to my story highlights if you weren’t able to catch it live!

Oh Hey, Girl.

January 15, 2018

blog1HI! I am so excited, happy, and scared to begin this journey of blogging and sharing tips and tricks for beauty I have learned along the way. Which, is by the way NERVE-WRACKING! My Goodness I have a hard time sharing face to face with my besties let alone just tossing things out on the internet!  But, here I am! Going head first. 🙂

A little about me, my name is Sarah, I live outside Columbus, Ohio. (GO Bucks!) I have a husband and two boys, 8 and 5 and a sweet French Bulldog named Gracie. So essentially, I am the Queen of their world, and I like it just like that. 🙂

What has brought me here is a passion for all the pretty things.  I have been so inspired by my friends and family here in OH to share all my how-to’s on beauty, clothing and style. I get asked all the time about how I do different things about hair and makeup and I kind of think the best way to help show you is to just blog about it.

And I tell you, I know you have a soft spot in your heart for a good sweatshirt (like me, duh).  This sweatshirt is legit, me ;)… Just so, so Extra. I LIKE matching my workout clothes to my shoes. I LIKE wearing matching cozy clothes around the house. I LIKE putting cranberries in the champagne drink for a family night. I also happen to LIKE trying out new makeup ideas even when I’m just sitting around the house. It makes me feel good about what I’m bringing to the table. That’s just who I am. Being “extra” isn’t a bad thing, like, at all! I feel like it just means that you put in the effort. And actually, when I don’t put in that effort for myself, it makes me feel disappointed. The feeling that I could have tried and I just was bring too lazy.  Kinda like the time you go to the grocery in some crazy outfit, no makeup- hair all crazy and you’re thinking you will never see anyone – so “who cares”. Guess what though, we ALWAYS DO. Then we feel bad about ourselves.  I HATE THAT FEELING….So I guess I am going to OWN being a little Extra, so what?! And I’m definitely not saying that I ONLY mean makeup, beauty and clothes. Lord knows that is not the only thing in life! Be Extra with Kindness, we NEED that! Be Extra with being a good Wife and Mother. All these things are going to make a difference in the world.

Anyway, through my blog, I’m hoping to let my friends in on a little piece of me. The “Extra” that helps me feel like I am taking it to the next level.  I hope we can all enjoy this journey together, wherever it takes us. And maybe it will inspire you to do that for yourself. I’m not saying it has to be exactly me, just be what is exactly you.
