Translating Trends for Real Life

The Winter Boot Roundup

November 2, 2020

Hey Girls! We had our first snow over the weekend– I think we all are under kinda mixed feelings about it. LOL– I really don’t mind the cold, wasn’t always that way, but as I have gotten older I can appreciate it a bit more! The weather had me reaching for my boots this weekend, and it had me thinking you girls might be doing the same.

I wanted to round up some trending and favorite style boots if you are in the market for something a little more than a sneaker– though I love my sneakers!

Theres quite a few options out there whether you are looking for strictly trend or fashion or function. I tend to go right in the middle. You know by now in my own personal shoe collection I do not mess around with comfort or function. I am willing to pay a bit more in order to 1. protect my feet 2. no slip and fall on my arse in the winter. Ohio winters are no joke, they are surprising , wet and disgusting at times.

My first suggestion and most recent FAQ– is what boot do I buy if I get just one? Assuming you live in the same climate as me, I would only make a suggestion for a boot that will stand up against the weather, look good with ZERO maintenance required and you can wear with all kinds of outfits. Which is a Sorel Wedge Boot-– They are not cheap, but cost per wear on those shoes are going to be so LOW when you buy one and wear them for the next 4 seasons. I still wear my first pair, which I bought 4 years ago and they look great still! They are the kind of boot where you can wear them ( as seen below) styled with all the outfits for winter and you will remain not just comfortable but your feet will be dry! They truly are a quality boot– so if you are buying just one pair, these are going to do it all for you!

Personally I am more fond of the lace up style, I found myself reaching for those the most- I can wear those in most situations from leggings to denim!

A few similar options for this same look are below:

Combat/Hiker Boot: We are definitely not here to talk about one pair of boots! Lots of styles and price ranges we can be chatting about! Others that I am loving are a little hiker boot with a small bit cozy to it. The pair I am wearing here are actually dupes for a much more expensive style–– I cannot believe the price! Not all “inspired” boots have nearly an exact look, these do! I scooped them up as soon as I could! They are great to also pair with

A few more similar style options are linked below!

Over the Knee Boot: Another style that I LOVE and wear a lot for a little more of a dressy look– I love the Over the Knee (OTK) boot! The designer style made by Stuart Weitzman is INREDIBLE- I bought my first pair about 5 years ago, they look AMAZING still and makes your legs look a mile long! Gives a super Sleek and upscale look to any outfit. I have also purchased a couple styles to try out that are a little less expensive, just to get the suede black OTK look, and they are also great! True Designer Option linked below:

Wearing OTK boots are a great way to dress up a simple sweater and denim, or also wear with your favorite Legging and tunic. These are not going to be weather proof, but still very comfortable any occasion! Similar and still excellent styles are linked below!

Dressy Bootie with an edge: Are you loving my made up terms for these new hybrid style booties?! LOL This is a newer trend style where we combine two different boots to make one new style. LOL I think Gucci made that up, I don’t know. This bootie I was MOST unsure of, its not inside a style I would typically choose, it combines the combat chunky heel with a dressed up style. Can anyone say “Hello 90’s”?

Nonetheless, when I bought them I was IN LOVE! They are really flattering and the chunky heel isn’t too chunky! My exact pair are actually a designer inspired boot (looking nearly exact) that are a fraction of the price. This style I would recommend for someone who already owns the basics and are looking for a style that maybe is a little different and not everyone owns. SO FUN!

Here are a few more styles that you might like!

Lastly the combat boot: Another style I was for SURE wanting to try but I wanted to make sure the heel wasn’t too chunky and I have a lot of casual boots, so I needed something that could be a little dressy! You guys I am so in love with these boots! The pair I landed on has just enough of a chunky sole and I LOVE the studded detail to be able to wear for a little bit of pizazz!

Combat boots are a style that I was previously a little intimidated to wear just because they seemed a little too chunky and I wasn’t sure on if they would work. I am SO surprised that these not only worked but they make your legs look a mile long! I suggest these for the gal that is looking for a little more of an edge to her look!

Gibson Cozy Fit Tips & Guide to all things Cozy

October 28, 2020

Hey Girls! Officially cozy season (always cozy season in my book) Gibson is a staple in my loungewear as you all know, They are so good with their lightweight jersey pieces! I also love Gibson because the pieces are so great for mix and match you can make each little look your own depending on your own personal style.

Since there are a few new arrivals today, and I am styling in IG stories- so don’t miss that! There are a few fun projects coming our way in the next few weeks *hint hint* 🙂 If you are brand new to Gibson, thought I would share some fit tips with the cozy pieces, closet staples and share some outfit inspiration along the way!

One of the many things that I love about Gibson Designs is the versatility of the pieces. Take the jumpsuit for example– this is a great everyday piece that can be worn for lounge, add a cardigan for an extra layer— take it on the road as a great travel piece or add a moto pumps for date night!

I am several times a week in my Gibson Joggers I absolutely love them. You girls see me wear the gray colorway but CHECK OUT the leopard with the new duster! IN LOVE! There are a bunch of color choices available and its fun to make your own combination! Mix and Match sets are so fun! Joggers are great to wear even slightly oversized but my true size large is a perfect fit for me!

Now for sizing-– I am a 10/12 bottom and M/L top– and with Gibson I like like the size large on me– I like things a bit oversized and not ever snug- so Large cozy fits me just right! I did include a size chart here so you can easily reference your own fit!

Not to go on too long here girls there’s more outfit inspiration below if you need a new outfit idea– but wanted to make sure if you feel inspired to make a purchase make sure you use my code MOMINSTYLE20 for 20% off your purchase– not just on new arrivals but the entire website all the time!

The Best Leggings Styles your Closet Needs

October 17, 2020

Hey Girls! We have a huge post today and Its all about the legging! I personally think we have been in legging season for a while– but typically we call that fall and winter LOL– Lots of requests for my Favorites for different occasions so I thought I would stop and put them all together for you!

This post is really to share what I wear the most, why and the details of each pair so if you are in the market for another pair this might help you too! Check out Instagram Stories for the full try on but I will do my best to include a full description here as well as a DUPE (if they are $$) the best I possibly can! These are listed out in no particular order, tried to be as unbiased as possible and just deliver facts on this one — there are a total of 7 pair with individual descriptions! 😉

Hope this post is helpful for you and if you find that someone you know might like it too, please feel free to share it! 😉

First pair of legging is the Wunder Under High Rise Full on Luon Legging, High waisted, 7/8 and a medium compression all the way through the legging. I wear this MOST often from boots and sweater to Athleisure OOTD these are made for movement, do not budge, excellent quality (these are 3 years old-ish and look brand new). They do attract pet hair at times and run about $98.

Dupe Option is here, runs TTS and under $45 🙂

Sizing: I wear an 8 this is my normal leggings size at Lululemon I wear a size 10/12 denim

Here are the Spanx “Look at me Now” Seamless legging– 7/8 length and high waisted. EXCELLENT shapewear, stays put, super black great for athleisure to sweaters and boots. This is a slightly thicker material, so if its above 70- I personally would not wear. This is a more affordable SPANX at around $68, if you want to see what all the fuss is about on the brand, this might be a good one to pick!

Similar seamless dupe options are linked here and here

Size: XL Sized up one from my typical Size Large.

Here are the SPANX Faux leather legging great again for all the looks from sweaters and boots to athleisure. SPANX is really about the shapewear they really do keep you lifted, supported and feeling confident all day. These are super black, full length and high waisted. Around $98. Goes on sale a couple times a year, Black Friday and the Nordstrom Sale. FYI if you have an need styling ideas, I have a post here.

Dupe Options: Nothing I know of is going to give you the same shapewear feeling but if you are going for the look: A great a dupe is here.

Sizing: I buy a Large and XL– Depends on the day but feel most comfortable in the XL which is one size up from my normal size large.

This the Aerie Offline Real Me Legging– High waisted 7/8 length I wear for athleisure and lounge outfits. Cotton style material, not made for tons of movement, no shaping technology but comfortable to wear in the evenings. If you are looking for a good basic legging I wear these a lot for lounge because they aren’t compressive. Super black and run under $50!

Size: I wear my typical Size Large

The Ever popular Lululemon Align Legging everyone loves these because they are buttery soft, truly unmatched! High waisted, 7/8 length- comes in a ton of colors and sizes these are made for movement so they are great for all weather and looks as well. Comfortable because they are no compressive so you can wear all day from yoga, to lunch to lounge. Keep their shape and look new as mine are also about 4 years old! Runs about $98.

Dupe option is here, Under $40! I have heard they are super similar though I do not personally own.

The Lululemon Wunder Train Legging— recently converted to now nearly my Favorite legging for workout. High waisted and 7/8 length the Everlux material combines comfort, sweat wicking, breathability– this is one that is a HIGH performance legging. Lift, run, walk do any kind of workout PLUS take them to lunch and beyond. Made for movement and high intensity workouts! Wash and wear perfect, looks brand new each time and does not lose shape with wear. Runs about $98.

Dupe: Couple other options I would suggest for workout are here and here— Both under $45 and run TTS. 🙂

Size: I wear Size 8 my typical Lululemon size.

The Aerie Offline Shine/Crackle legging. High Waisted and 7/8 length Has the look of a faux leather legging with more comfortable lounge fit. No shapewear in these as they will be more comfortable but don’t give me that same confidence as the previous pair. Given the look however they are a great dupe option to previous more expensive pairs with the same look. Runs under $50.

Size: I wear Large which is my typical Size.

Date Night Tops Under $30

February 25, 2020

Hey friends! Spring is just around the corner I can feel it! I makes me so excited to be able to be outside a little bit more! That means Date Night!!! 🙂 Walmart has some really fun tops lately that make it really easy to toss on a pair of jeans and get out the door and have fun! My favorite kind of date night USUALLY includes tacos and margaritas– but I have been known to love a great steak too. I love having fun little tops like that, but since they aren’t something I wear all the time– I don’t like to spend a ton of money on them! (You know me, liking to wear something new butttttttt need it to be affordable too!) Walmart has a ton of great tops that fit the budget AND are so so cute!

Today’s post is all about the date night top so I rounded up 10 favorites at Walmart that are under $30! This top that I have on here is super silky and soft, and seriously SO flattering! 🙂 I hope you are going to be busy making some fun plans coming up! What is your favorite kind of date night! Would love some new ideas!

My New Year’s thoughts, and a few Athleisure Faves

January 27, 2020

I didn’t really make New Year’s Resolutions, been there- done that. There once was a time where I would do that, but the Resolutions were things that I had never done before- get healthy, incorporate healthier eating and becoming more active. Sometimes I even have committed to more weekends at church or more date nights. Not to say that I don’t like making New Year Resolutions nor am I swearing them off– don’t take it that way. I LOVE the idea of making a commitment to myself to get better in some area of my life– I LOVE stuff like that.

In the past 5 years or so I have been pretty darn happy with my progress, I have definitely taken the time for self care and improvement, but the past two years have been a little more shaky. Lots of changes in our family that I have needed to navigate on top of starting a business– my own self care has been an up and down road, which I am fine with for new.

Goalsettting is something I have always been something I have been accustomed to and LOVE doing it. I love to see progress and committing to myself to get what I want and achieve in life and for my family.

My Goals this year are to commit to my workouts 5-6 Days per week and Drink my water! My favorite workouts right now are going to CrossFit and my Peloton Bike. I try to do at least 20 minutes to disconnect and have that be my “Me”time. With my water I know it sounds like a big goal, but 100 oz. is what I like to drink a day. I have been traveling so much lately I have not been able to get in everything I want– and I can feel a difference. So when I am home I am really trying to buckle down! I know it sounds so simple but let me tell you it improves me mentally just as much as it does physically!

This look was inspired by those goals, staple athleisure that I feel in style but ready for anything that comes my way! 🙂 Love easy pieces especially this JACKET that looks great with leggings and denim– also these shoes I have heard rave reviews about– and just needed to try! These Zella Brand items available at Nordstrom are great go -to pieces!

What commitments are you making that I can help cheer you on!?
