Hi Friends!
I always wonder what makes people do what they do. Blogging is no different, and I love hearing about back stories from ladies on how they got their start and also what led them to that decision. I get asked a LOT on behind the scenes, and why I decided to begin blogging.
I have had to take some time to think about my answer, mainly because once I DID decide- I was ALL IN. Shortly after I decided on “TheMomInStyle”, I just head first in figuring out a website and ALL THE THINGS. Essentially, when I began this journey, my blog was the “side gig” to my Styling Business. It was the extra puzzle piece where I could share whatever I wanted whether it be beauty, hair or style– a creative outlet for me. When I don’t have styling jobs, I work on the blog. I have to say that when I started, I was really pretty nervous about it. This is a totally new and “out there” leap of faith for me. Was anyone even going to look at it? How do I create a Blog? What am I going to say? I didn’t have all the answers to those questions, but what I did do is start. I jumped right in and just Googled my way through it.
I have to say, I LOVE it. I have NEVER done something so challenging. I never really had an outlet where I could dictate what to say, how it looks and every detail about this space. The sense of accomplishment it brings truly is like something I never expected. Kind of like when you lose weight, or run a half marathon. NOBODY can do it for you. It’s YOU that put the effort in each day and its you that ultimately makes the choices that brings you success. Creating a blog is SO similar to that, for example nobody gets up early for me and writes my blog posts. Nobody puts the effort in each DAY to share my tips and tricks, my nighttime routine or how to curl my hair. It’s me, all me. Nobody can make a claim towards success or demise.. except me.
Perfect Example here of why if I had waited to “know everything before I start”… Then I would STILL would not have launched my Blog. Everyday I learn something new, make mistakes and have success. Even though I knew NOTHING… I’m so glad I started when I did! I just learned along the way!
Anyway, I’m rambling… So, why I started doing this begin with: So my friend Rebecca, she dragged me out one evening to a workshop listen to a panel of people who all were working on “side hustles”, their passions they believed would allow them to quit their corporate jobs and work solely for what they loved. I left the discussion that evening with a renewed sense of possibility for myself. I was SO inspired to see ideas and hope in the room, it had sparked something inside me I could not ignore. I could not stand back and let others enjoy such fulfillment in their lives, and not attempt something for myself! I reflected HARD on what all this meant for me. This “spark” inside me was telling me that I was meant for more. I was meant to do more, say more, and and hopefully…impact more. The Blog was born.
As a woman who has struggled with weight, self esteem, confidence blah blah blah… I have been on a personal journey over the past few years to regain and teach those things to myself. This was not just a nudge but a HUGE push in a direction that once again, I am out of my comfort zone. The Blog pushes me to go outside what I feel is comfortable and pushes me to do more. No, I don’t like taking pictures of myself, some have said that it seems pretty self absorbed to constantly do so. What do I write about? Is anyone going to read it? Then there’s the whole separate challenge of managing the social media accounts!
While there have been so many challenges that I continue work try to overcome, the reward has been overwhelming. The thought that ANYONE would follow me, or want to know more about me is hugely humbling. I truly have a passion for Styling and helping women feel their best! I LOVE receiving your feedback and it’s that community and it’s what keeps me showing up everyday.
So there’ s a little back story and some snippets of how I got started and why. As Always, Thank you so much for stopping by and reading a little bit of my story. I invite you continue on this Journey with me as TheMomInStyle continues to evolve just as I do.
